Additional Cars

This car was done using my own custom decals created for this scheme. The weathering is from a photo out of the MEC in Color book Volume II.

This is an old MDC car, after researching I determined the car and paint scheme are totally inaccurate for the cars number, still it looks good and after all it is my railroad.

Ah, yes the salt covered hopper. I still have the decals you sent me and a PRR car I was in process of removing the lettering for so I could paint and then decal it. Another project I need to get back to. Your car looks great!

Scratches and rust marks on the SP car also look great. I saw a clinic and bought a DVD on the Mike Rose technique for doing this with oil paints. Have not given it a try yet. Is that what you did?

I did this by actually scratching the paint with an exacto knife, using some regular hobby paint in the scratch and pastels.

I have oils and use those on occasion too. I carry 6 to 8 cars with me when I am on the road to weather. Most of my weathering is done with washes, direct paint application, dry brushing and pastels which I can keep in a cigar box. I may use one or all four of the techniques based on what I am trying to achieve from the photo.
