The back drop was painted using a basic green to start the shape and profile. After that the trees and foilage was added using various shades of green. I added tree trunks in areas I plan on having the forground trees thin. I used both brushes and sponges torn into random shaped to get the desired affect.

The effect looks pretty good. I don't have enough trust in myself to attempt painting the backdrop, so I have gone with the ground foam covered foam-core board. But yours looks nice. It will be interesting to see it once foreground trees are in place.
I have been semi talented at painting so went ahead and tried it. I would really like to go with a photo back drop like I have seen on other layouts but have not had time to try that yet.
